PRE-CHOIR LEVEL

First Voices 1

First Voices  1  is our pre-choir experience for boys and girls in Kindergarten through first grade. In an encouraging setting, children play musical games while they learn FUN-damental music skills related to understanding, expressing and performing music together. They are invited to join the performing choirs twice a year in our major concert finale.

$250 per semester

First Voices 2

 
First Voices 2 is our pre-choir experience for boys and girls in first grade. Students build on their learning from First Voices 1 in a fun and expressive environment. They are invited to join the performing choirs twice a year in our major concert finale.

Training Choirs

TrebleMakers

TrebleMakers is our youngest performing ensemble. Boys and girls in at least second grade with a love for music come together to develop their skills for singing beautiful unison choral music. They learn enough music to perform a major section of our semi-annual concerts.

TrebleMakers learn wonderful songs that become their favorites for a long time and form strong bonds with choir friends. They surprise audiences with talent and energy and they are the cutest!

 Incoming singers should:

  • Love to sing
  • Follow directions
  • Be an active participant

During rehearsals we focus on:

  • Singing with a beautiful sound
  • Singing with precise intonation (in tune)
  • Improving vocal technique
  • Learning to read notes, rhythms and musical patterns in solfege
  • Performance etiquette

Performances include:

  • Winter Concert (December)
  • Spring Concert (May)
  • School Tour (One day in the spring or winter)
  • Occasional Community Concerts

Tuition:
$750 for the full season

A limited number of partial tuition scholarships based on financial need are offered. Payment plans can be set up.

Option 1: Mondays, 4:30-5:45 pm
Option 2: Thursdays, 4:30-5:45 pm

Crescendo

Crescendo is so-named because the singers are developing their musical skills and increasing their repertoire. This group is open to girls in at least fourth grade who have achieved basic music reading and singing skills allowing them to sing more complex music.

Crescendo members develop their skills by learning music in two parts sometimes in a foreign language! They have a fabulous time singing with new choir friends teaching their parents how to read music!

Singer should be able to:

  • Match pitch with good intonation (in-tune) in the treble range
  • Know the lines and spaces of the treble staff
  • Perform basic rhythm patterns in simple (4/4) meter
  • Possess basic sight-reading skills
  • Sing a part alone
  • Cooperate within the choral rehearsal
  • Attend rehearsals and performances

During rehearsals we focus on:

  • Producing a beautiful sound
  • Singing with precise intonation (in-tune)
  • Improving vocal technique
  • Sight-reading in solfeggi in various keys within one octave
  • Part-singing in two parts
  • Performance etiquette
  • Cooperative participation in the ensemble

Performances may include:

  • Winter Concert (December)
  • Spring Concert (May)
  • School Tour (One day in the spring)
  • Occasional Community Concerts

PriorityMale

PriorityMale is  group for males in at least 4th grade. They love to sing together in a space where they are free to explore the range of their unchanged treble voices from low to very high. In rehearsal they work on music reading skills and vocal development, and they often get to sing with the older male group, VoiceMale, who serve as role models for them. These young men are serious about their music, but they also have a lot of fun just being together.

Singer should be able to:

  • Match pitch with good intonation (in-tune) in the treble range
  • Know the lines and spaces of the treble staff
  • Perform basic rhythm patterns in simple (4/4) meter
  • Possess basic sight-reading skills
  • Sing a part alone
  • Cooperate within the choral rehearsal
  • Attend rehearsals and performances

During rehearsals we focus on:

  • Producing a beautiful sound
  • Singing with precise intonation (in-tune)
  • Improving vocal technique
  • Sight-reading in solfeggi in various keys within one octave
  • Part-singing in two parts
  • Performance etiquette

Advanced Choirs

Cantabella

Historically, Canta Bella is Young Voices of Colorado’s oldest performing ensemble forming the core of our identity in guest appearances, collaborations, festivals and travel. Choir membership is open to female singers in at least sixth grade. Their choral training requires greater responsibility and commitment.

The choir serves as host choir for our Young Voices’ Sing A Mile High International Children’s Choral Festival in late June.

How can we explain how cool it is to be in Vox Anima? Singers attend a brief “boot camp” for a couple of days in the summer to make sure they understand the level of work that is expected. All year they work on fabulous music for two main concerts and Sing A Mile High Children’s International Choral Festival! Four days of “Extraordinary Music and Fabulous Fun!” Vox Anima Singers are also eligible for international tours.

Becoming a member of Vox Anima requires a full year’s commitment.

Singer should be able to:

  • Match pitch with good intonation (in-tune) in the treble range
  • Know the lines and spaces of the extended treble staff (ledger lines)
  • Perform basic rhythmic patterns in simple (4/4) and complete (6/8) meter
  • Sight-read more advanced musical patterns
  • Identify key signatures
  • Identify solfege syllables
  • Sing a part alone while another singer sings a different part
  • Cooperate significantly within the choral rehearsal
  • Attend rehearsals and performances including Sing A Mile High, putting the needs of the ensemble first

During rehearsals we focus on:

  • Producing a beautiful pure sound with proper breath support
  • Singing with precise intonation (in-tune) in four our more parts
  • Improving vocal technique
  • Nuances of blend and balance
  • Sight-reading in solfege in various keys, with some accidentals
  • Part-singing in two to four parts or more
  • Performance etiquette
  • Independent musicianship, including “homework” learning new music
  • Musical leadership within the ensemble
  • Musical and community leadership for Sing A Mile High
  • Becoming a unified group in musical sound and in spirit

  • Winter Concert (December)
  • Spring Concert (May)
  • School Tour (One day in the spring)
  • Special concerts
  • Guest appearances
  • Honor choirs
  • Sing A Mile High International Children’s Choral Festival

Tuition:
$1425 for the full season

Tuition includes Sing A Mile High (stay at home package) and our fall and spring camps. Singers may pay an additional $275 and stay on campus (if space is available) for Sing A Mile High.

A limited number of partial tuition scholarships based on financial need are offered. Payment plans can be set up.

Rehearsals:
Thursdays, 5:00-7:00 pm

Auditions:
Auditions are held throughout the year for experienced singers new to YVC.

Vox Anima Winter Concert 2019

VoiceMale

VoiceMale is our most advanced choir for young men. Singers are selected through a competitive audition process. Young men are chosen based on proven success in PriorityMale, vocal skill, blend, music reading ability, social maturity and serious commitment to excellence.

The choir serves as host choir for our Young Voices’ Sing A Mile High International Children’s Choral Festival in late June.

How can we explain how cool it is to be in VoiceMale? Singers attend a brief “boot camp” for a couple of days in the summer to make sure they understand the level of work that is expected. All year they work on fabulous music for two main concerts and Sing A Mile High Children’s International Choral Festival! Four days of “Extraordinary Music and Fabulous Fun!” VoiceMale members are also eligible for international tours.

Becoming a member of VoiceMale requires a full year’s commitment.

Singer should be able to:

  • Have successfully completed at least one year in Priority Male
  • Desire to further develop singing and sight-reading skills
  • Desire to serve a community as leaders of boy singers
  • Willing to work independently on “choir homework”
  • 100% commitment to group rehearsals and performances

During rehearsals we focus on:

  • Changed-voice singing in an expanded vocal range
  • Small group techniques requiring more independent singing

Performances may include:

  • Winter Concert (December)
  • Spring Concert (May)
  • School Tour (One day in the spring)
  • Leadership in the YVC BoyChoir Projects
  • Special invitations for collaborations
  • Sing A Mile High (if able to sing in treble voice and learn festival music)
  • National Tour

Tuition:
$1870 for the full season

Tuition includes Sing A Mile High (stay at home package) and our fall and spring camps. Singers may pay an additional $275 and stay on campus (if space is available) for Sing A Mile High.

A limited number of partial tuition scholarships based on financial need are offered. Payment plans can be set up.

Mondays, 5:00-7:00 pm

Auditions:
Auditions are held in spring and summer for experienced singers new to YVC.

Signature

Signature is our crème de la crème. Membership is the most competitive of all YVC Ensembles. As such, this group is our “signature,” representing our organization in performances beyond the scope of the other choirs. Members of this group must show extraordinary skills, commitment and dedication.

The choir serves as host choir for our Young Voices’ Sing A Mile High International Children’s Choral Festival in late June.

How can we explain how cool it is to be in Signature? Singers attend a brief “boot camp” for a couple of days in the summer to make sure they understand the level of work that is expected. All year they work on fabulous music for two main concerts and Sing A Mile High Children’s International Choral Festival! 4 days of “Extraordinary Music and Fabulous Fun!” Signature members are also eligible for international tours.

Becoming a member of Signature requires a full year’s commitment.

To gain admission to Signature, singers must exceed requirement for Vox Anima with the following additions:

  • Successful completion of a least one year in Vox Anima
  • Desire to further develop singing and sight-reading skills
  • Advanced women’s repertoire in four to eight parts or more
  • Exquisite unified sound, tone, blend and balance
  • Desire to serve a community as leaders
  • Willing to work independently on “choir homework”
  • 100% commitment to group rehearsals and performances
  • Independence of parts
  • Scattered formation
  • Voice blending

  • Special invitations for collaborations
