Reflections on Change – Jena Dickey, founder and artistic director

October 5, 2017  – Jena Dickey

The world has changed drastically since Young Voices of Colorado began its mission to inspire children to a lifelong love of singing over twenty-seven years ago. Yet so much remains the same. We still recognize beauty, and we still value the pursuit of excellence. We melt at the pure tone of children’s voices joined in unison, and we marvel at their skill and their artistry.

We are continuously touched by singing in situations we could not have imagined almost three decades ago. Scenes, such as Congressmen gathering on the steps of our nation’s Capitol to sing God Bless America after the World Trade Center collapsed, have taken our breath away.

We remark at the deconstruction of music programs to make way for “basics” and the resulting discovery that “something is missing,” because we know that music is not a frill or an option, but a right and a necessity for every human spirit.

Young Voices of Colorado is founded on the concept, both timely and timeless, that music is important—sometimes overlooked, but never completely forgotten. The music that our young singers study and perform is of the highest quality, and our program emphasizes the attention to detail that this fine art deserves.

Young Voices singers and their parents are committed to excellence. As children develop their natural talents, we watch them stand taller when they recognize what they have achieved.

At the same time, we revel in our organization’s ability to attract some of the area’s most dedicated young music makers—people who realize that musical excellence involves both talent and commitment. The results speak for themselves, and we are thrilled to share them with you.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,

but by the moments that take our breath away. [source unknown]

And that’s what we aim to do—We aim to take your breath away!

If you are inspired by what we do, we welcome your involvement, whether you are a concert goer, Season Sponsor, corporate benefactor, parent, grandparent, neighbor, teacher, friend or volunteer. We appreciate your support and recognize your good taste!

            Viva la musica!
